Acute pain service

After surgery, patients generally experience pain lasting for about 5 to 7 days. The Inpatient Acute Pain Service is here to help them recover quickly with the least amount of pain. We believe that controlling pain is important not only to make them more comfortable, but also to allow participation in activities that promote recovery from surgery. Once their pain has been assessed, patients will be provided with the appropriate choices for managing your pain. Some of the choices are as given below

  • Oral pain medication including opioids
  • Intravenous infusion of opioid and non opioid medications
  • PCA (Patient Controlled Analgesia)
  • Epidural Infusion
  • Continuous Regional Anesthesia

We extensively use nerve blocks (local anaesthetic injections around the nerves which carry pain) for controlling pain after the operation. These are done using the latest ultrasound technology which make these procedures very safe and reliable. For major orthopaedic operations we infuse the local anaesthesia solution near the nerves using an indwelling catheter. These are safe and will provide superior quality of pain relief.

Chronic pain service

  • Inpatient chronic pain service
  • Outpatient chronic pain service
