Epilepsy (Seizures)

We offer comprehensive treatment to patients suffering from epilepsy. Our team of epileptologist, neurosurgeon specializing in epilepsy surgery have the combined experience of having operated on more than 700 epilepsy surgeries over the last 15 years. We have state-of-the-art computerized video monitoring that pinpoints the site and severity of seizure activity. This allows the epileptologist to precisely locate the source of seizures in patients who have not responded to medical treatment. These patients are said to suffer from “medically refractory epilepsy”. Out of every 100 newly diagnosed epilepsy patients approximately 25 may fall into this group. We use VEEG, MRI, PET scan of the brain , neuropsychological testing and occasionally invasive intracranial monitoring to localize the epileptic brain focus and then eliminate it with precision surgery. Our results match international standards giving long term freedom from seizures. 30-40% of the patients who undergo epilepsy surgery are children, who benefit enormously from the surgery and are able to resume schooling and progress to lead a productive life.

The department offers coordinated treatment options in the management of epilepsy. Adult and pediatric patients are treated with regular video EEG seizure monitoring. Apart from drug therapy, surgical treatment options and vagal stimulation methods are followed based on individual assessment and severity of seizure.
